CATECHISM of the CATHOLIC CHURCH (CCC)

The Catechism contains a comprehensive summary of "Catholic doctrine, enabling everyone to know what the Church professes, celebrates, lives, and prays in her daily life." It "faithfully and systematically presents the teaching of Sacred Scripture, the Living Tradition in the Church and the authentic Magisterium, as well as the spiritual heritage of the Fathers, Doctors, and saints of the Church, to allow for a better knowledge of the Christian mystery and for enlivening the faith of the People of God." (Quotations attributed to Pope John Paul II)

Most every paragraph of the Catechism contains footnotes which can refer to Scripture, Church Councils, Church Fathers, Quotes from saints down through the ages and the document therein as well as a host of other references. These form the back-up for the CCC teaching in the paragraph.

Using the Catechism: The numbered references are printed in bold and are located on the same line of, and to the left of, the start of each paragraph.
